Dear All,
What is the prerequisites before applying an opatch? Is it required to stop the db services and listener before applying an opatch?

Most often yes, but this is specified in the readme file you have with your patch.

Thanks for the reply. In the readme it is not mentioned anything about the db shutdown.

So can I apply this patch with db stopped/started?

What kind of patch if this?
Does it touch Oracle binaries?
If you don't know, better stop the services or open a SR and ask Oracle.

I raised SR with Support and they suggested, all opatch patches require the db to be cleanly shutdown, whether its stated or not stated in the README.

Thanks for the feedback.
I already knew Oracle official answer but when you are talking with them patch per patch for some of them they say it is not necessary.
But anyway, better shutdown the services.
