What will be the effect of deleting a particular tablespace from a database? Want to do this just to free some disk space since all the objects within the tbs are not used. Will the database function properly after start up?. I will store it as a backup so that it can used for reference later.

Thanks.

Dropping a tablespace implies dropping all objects it contains.
You don't need to restart.

After dropping a tablespace you can't "reinsert" it.

It is better if you take export tablespace before droping for backup purpose.
