Appears like you have been playing with semaphores. If its not a production database than go ahead, but you must understand what you are doing.some changes have database wide consequences.

Read this only if you are on production :-
[Not enough semaphores to allow you to create more processes.Need to set your kernel parameters correctly for the number of processes you want have. ]

All the best.

Only if you can post your kernel version & OS version & amount of RAM you have. Also confirm if you are running multiple Instances on this host. also post back output of ipcs -b | grep oracle if possible.

Regards

At your earliest convenience, you should reboot the system.

There is no magic formula but try to resolve using following hints hope you may be able to hit the root of problem.

1. It is common for semaphores to exhaust on multiple instance hosts. If every thing was fine & working before incident than it may be attributed to large number of semaphores locked by other instances. [if your system was up for a long time]As suggested by Ana try rebooting & restarting your instances one by one if you can afford it.

2. If no luck by rebooting. Try increasing maximum numbers of semaphores [SEMMNS] by increasing it to a higher value. Following recommendations are valid for most unix/linux versions but please consult docs for your SunOS before you proceed as changing these values may have system wide impact. Also refer oracle installation guide for your platform for recommended range of values.

Semaphore You posted Rec Range Remarks
semmni 100 128 - 250 Max semaphore sets in entire system
semmns 1024 32000 Max semaphore count in entire system
semmsl nil 250 Max semaphores per semaphore set

3. If tuning semaphores do not yield any results than have a look on your shared memory segments they may also need tuning.
