Hi,

I've got to upgrade a couple of 10.1.0.1 databases to 10.2.0.3

I was wondering if this upgrade would require an import/export of the databases, or if it just requires an upgrade of the RDBMS after the patch are applied?

Thanks in advance

Nicolas

1. Export/Import across databases
2. Patching
3. Upgradation

All three are different process having different purposes. It is normally much safe to go for upgradation when moving across different releases of databases. Patching across releases should be avoided as far as possible.

Hi Manjit,

thanks for the reply.

Can you tell me what difference you make between upgradation and patching?

thanks again,

Nicolas

Upgradation when you change the version, patching when you apply a pacth or patchset.

Ok.

So, in 10.1 from 10.2 it's an upgrade and I should perform an export/import

From 10.2.0.2 to 10.2.0.3 it's a patch and export/import is not required.

Is that right?

This is right but in first case you can also use upgrade assistant (dbua).
